THE EXHIBITION.
AFTER THE SHOW IS OYER. Mr Edwards, the representative of the New Zealand Winegrowers' Association, reports having,, sold nil the exhibit of colonial wines shown at the exhibition. The wines have gained high .praise from connoisseurs i 'who have tried ftlicin, and their ; salis should gain great impetus in New Plymouth. Wednesday night saw most of the exhibits removed, the interior of the building presenting (quite a wilderness. Such energy had been shown in dismantling that in many instances the stands themselves had 'been taken clown. Messrs W. A. I jWood and (J. Browne were appointed to hand over exhibitors' goods and obtain receipts for the same. | The winner of the lirst prize for jthe guessing competition was Mr J. | C. Legg, of Auckland, caterer to the exhibition, who guessed 272, the second prize going to Mrs Gnylanl, of Stratford, with 270. As there were no less than eight guessers within one of the correct number, lots were drawn by the Mayor land Mr Goodacre in order to decide the winner. I Mr Goodacre, chairman of the exhibition committee, states that owing to an oversight on Tuesday 'night the speakers omitted to monition the valuable services rendered by Mr N. K. MacDiarmid in connection with the children's carnival. On Wednesday morning Messrs H. lA. Lennon (secretary) nnd E. Clarke I (assistant secretary) were presented with testimonials, signed by all the exhibitors or their representatives, as a further expression of appreciation of the work done on the exhibi- [ tors' behalf by the recipients. On Friday night at 7.30 Mr N. King will sell by auction nil the provisions and cooking utensils from the dining-room. AWARDS. PHOTOGRAPHY. Portraiture, collection of 4. F. Chambers, Auckland i. Best picture by photography.—F. Chambers, Auckland,l ; Miss K. M. Saxton, 2. Cut flowers.—Miss K. M. Saxton 1. In the open class (amateurs and professionals) for an enlargement of Mount Egmont Mr W. A. Collis secured the silver medal. For the best exhibit by a professional photographer, Mr Denton, of Wanganui, secured lirst prize. ESSAYS. Under 15.—Miss S. Hurle, 2. Under 13.—Miss M. Dowling, 2. Both of these competitors came from the South Road school.
