THE TRAIL OF THE UNIONIST. Causes Strikes in Russia. (Received Jan. 17, 9.2 p.m.) St. PETEHSUIRG, Jan. 17. Twelve thousand of l'utiloft's iron workers ' in St. Petersburg have struck owing to the dismissal of live unionists, and 30,000 others have struck in symiiathy. They declare they have no revolutionary objects in view. Prussian Co liery Troubles. THE KAISER INTERVENES. BERLIN, Jan. 17. The Kaiser has sent a commission to investigate the Westphalian strike and arrange a compromise. The mine owners have definitely rejected the men's demands. (Received Jan. 17, 11.19 p.m.) BERLIN, Jan. 17. Owing to the German mine owners' refusal to discuss their demands the labour .leaders ordered la general strike in the Ruhr district, in Westphalia, which affects a quarter of a million men. A regiment has been ordered to the spot.
