(Per Press Association.) TIMARU, Jan. 17. The South Canterbury lioaid of Education to-day discussed the remarks made by the Premier in reply to the WuUara school committee s complaint that their school was overcrowded, when tho Premier blamed boards of education for mismanaging building grants. Thelioard passed a resolution protesting against the incorrect and misleading statement of the Premier regarding tho responsibility of boards, llie case in question was one of enlargement of the school, and this class of work has been taken out of tho hands of boards, who havo to apply to the department for funds for each particular work, and th-is bf>ard has applied again and ag«in and in vain for money for urgent requirements. Tho board says the Premier's charge of mismanagement by tho board is most unfair and uncalled for, and draws bis attention to__ the department's circulars of the 17th and 24t/h February last. ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS. A DYNAMITE FATALITY, (Ifccuived Jan. 17, 10.8 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 17. Mr S. 11. Mcintosh, tho crack pigeon shot, was blowing up a slump with dynamite, which prematurely Exploded, and Mcintosh was blown to pieces. AUCKLAND. Jan. 17. Michael McClurfc and Jack Russell were buried by a fall of earth at the destructor works to-day. McClure was dug out safely, but Russell was dead when the body was recovered. , WAIHI, Jan. 17. this afternoon a miner named Walter Breslin was killed outright in the shaft jof the Walhi Extended mine. He fell backwards oil a small platform in the shaft into an empty truck a foot or two below. The back of his head struck tho edge of the truck, causing a fracture at tho base of the skull. Deceased was unmarried, and was a nephew of the mine manager.
