A riddle which Has for a long lime been occupying- the minds of many scientists has now been solved, numerous theories have been upset respecting the propagation of eels but scientists have never hitherto succeeded in stowing where the propagation takes place nor discovering the spawn. A Danish biologist, Dr. Schmidt, who has been undertaking researches in the Atlantic ti'scovered the spawn of two important fishes—eels and, halibut. Eels' fry Was discovered floating in the depths of the ocean' between Iceland and the Faroe Islands. It was about 3iu. long and completely unlike the fullgrown eel. Halibuts' sp a wn was discovered between Iceland and Greenland, near the ground where the English and American fishermen have for several years pursued their calling.
