ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS.

At the iwjuost on Albert Hood, a platelayer, who was Uilled in u collision with a train while riding on a jigger, a verdict of accidental death was returned, with a rider added that the. railway system was faulty, inasmuch as it did not provide that platelayers be advised of special trains ; also that telephone communication should bo established at platelayers' houses at out-stations. UISHOKNE, Jan. 14. A lumper named Christiansen was severely injured on the Wanaka this morning, lie was ascending the side of the vessel on a rope, and lit* fell back, a. hook, on the end penetrating his back near Hie spine. DUNEDIN, Jan. 15. Thomas Ward, 22 years of age, a fireman on ail engine, was run over at Atybotsford during shunting operations on Saturday, and died from his injuries. AUCKLAND, Jan. 15. A fatality is reported from Te Aroha. The in'fant son of William Hartley fen oil a sw<ing uind dislocated his 1 neck. The child was only out a few minutes when his juother missed him, and found him with his zjeck on the swing and his hands and feet touching the ground 1 , lie was quite dead. A verdict of accidental death was returned, no blame being attributable to anyone.
