CRICKET.
The Australian Team Criticised. LONDON, Jan. 10. General satisfaclion is expressed at the inclusion of Darling in the Australian cricket team. Mr P. P. Warner considers the team very strong in totting. Mr Gilbert Jcssop thinks it is a fine all-round combination, and that the Englishmen will need all their resources to defeat it. MELBOURNE, Jan. 11. The Age says the cricket team is absurdly handicapped by the omission of Saunders because of fear o( what the English umpires might do. The Argus considers the only surprise is the inclusion of Darling, who was not a candidate. As to his fitness there can be no doubt. The bowling will be the greatest weakness of the team. The following team will represent New Plymouth C.C. to-day on the Tukapa 'Ground : —llasell, Lightband, Lash, Price, Steeds, Bewlcy, Elliott, Braund, Fleming, Stocker and Whittle. As the fixtures arc drawn the match is with Carrington Koad, but it is expected that this will be altered so that the Urcnui team will play instead.
