An Island Affair.

Incident of a Labour Recruiting Cruise. BRISBANE, Jan. 11. In reply to a question the Premier said the Government agent of the labour schooner Clansman on the last trip to the islands was not aware that one of the returned islanders had been tomahawked as soon as he landed at Betabay, as alleged by a member of the crew. The Premier objected to a proposal to examine seamen at the Bar of the House, but said that if a specific charge was preferred it would be thoroughly investigated.
