ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS.
FATALITY ON THE RAILWAY. A sad accident occurred yesterday afternoon at Stratford, by which a young man named C. W. Crocker, a son of Mr S. T. Crocker, of Devonstreet East, lost his life. Deceased, who was a porter on the railway, went out by the mid-duy train to assist the guard, and while engaged in shunting was knocked down bv the engine and run over. The resulting injuries were so severe that he died soon afterwards. The body was subsequently brought into New Plymouth. (Per Press Association.) CHIUSTCIUUCH, Jan. 11. A labourer named Win. H. (,'cddrs, aged 71, died suddenly at Kaugioia this afternoon. The cause of death was heart disease. UISUOUNK, Jan. 11. At Whatututu, at about o:«0 tonight, a man named Rae, aged P.I, went in for a swim in the river alter work. He jumped in feet first, and did not rise. His two companions made every effort to rescue, him, but his body was not found until some time later, when he was quite dead. It is supposed death was caused from the shock' of going into the water in a heated slul«. Deceased's parents belong to Core.
