FOR THOSE IN PERIL ON THE SEA
LIFE-BOAT SERVICE FOR WELLINGTON. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 9. A public meeting; was held tonight to consider tho question of establishing a life-boat service at or near Wellington Heads. There was a great crowd in attendance. Tho Mayor presided, and Sir Joseph Ward was present and made a short | speech.-. It was stated during the evening that the purchase of a boat would cost £llOO, and thai the Government would provide a boat house. The meeting passed the following resolution : "That this meeting is of opinion that steps should be taken as soon as possihle to socurc such life-bout and station for the beiutfit of those in peri) on the sea." Subsequently the quostion of the manner in which the entrance to the harijour is lighted was brought forward, and the installation of a tow light under l'encarro'w Head was advocated. A motion was carried urging the necessity of abetter light for the guidance of shipmasters,.
