THE EXHIBITION.
STEADY PROGRESS. The attendance on Monday showed no signs of slacking off, and it was estimated that about 2000 visited the various parts of the buildings. There was nothing social to attract the public -in the way of outside entertainments, but the side-shows were well patronised, and during the performance of several well-ren-dered selections by Air Garry's orchestra in the gardens the latter were filled. TO-DAY'S DOINGS. These will embrace only tile usual routine, until evening, when a reciting competition in tho Gymuasium will be held. COMING A'l MOTIONS. The military tournament on Thursday promises to be something quite out of the ordinary, us good entries are coming to hand from various corps for the several events, and it is probable a Wellington team may compete. Tho Right Hon. the Premier and Sir Joseph Ward are to be present at the tournament, which will be held in the Recreation .Grounds, On Friday night E. R. Terry, tho champion axeman, proposes to give an exhibition of chopping in the exhibition grounds. He will endeavour to lower the 18in. standing blqpk New Zealand record of limn 45sec held by D. Pretty, and on Saturday night ho will make an attempt on his own world's record of 26scc. for a 12in. block. Terry is also willing to chop against any two men on a 12in. block, and should there be any willing t,a meet him the chips may fairly be expected to flyi On Friday and Saturday two ports programmes will be gone through* CLOSING DAY. At a meeting of the executive last ©voning it was decided to close the exhibition on Tuesduy night next. It is intended to ask all stall holders, and a ttendunts, and as many others as can make it convenient, to appear in fancy costume, thus investing the closing scenes with a real carnival glamour. As a largely augmented attendance of tho public may be oxpepted on that occasion, it is safe to assume that the curtain will be rung, down on a finale befitting Tarannki's most enterprising effort in recent years.
