CRICKET.
NEW SOUTH WALES v. SOUTH AUSTRALIA. (Received .lan. 8, 0.18 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 8. The weather was fine ami the wicket good. On the whole the New South Wales batting was poor. Duff played crisp, sound cricket, while a Waddy-Howell partnership added 88 runs. Howell, though safer, made his usual number of uppish strokes, but Waddy played a careful game. Travers was in capital form, and used Jvis head well. Excepting Hill, who was batting for an hour, and Pellcw, the visitors in their second essay could make no head- j way against Cotter's deliveries. NewSouth Wales' first innings realised 299—Duff 80, Waddy 57, Howell 62, Carter 22. Cowen tooE one wicket for 17 runs, Travers six for 102, Reednian three for 79. South Australia's second innings stands at six for 107—Hill 41, l'ellew (not out) 24. Cotter has the whole of the six wickets at his credit, at a cost of 47 runs. (
