The evidence showed that on Christmas Eve MiHenry Proctor and his wife, after participating in a merry meeting with their neighbours in front of iheir hut at Meroo, retired shortlv lifter midnight. Five children were Bleeping with them in the hut, which was constructed of bagging* and bark. Mr Prootor was awakened alxmt half past five by fire falling on his face. He roused his wife, and after rushing outside to call for help, dashed back among the flames and rescued two ehildrai, who were shockingly burned. The mother rescued the baby. The other two children who escaped unaided were the onfy two members of the family who -were uninjured. The mother and father were severely burned about the right hands and. arms in the rescuing children. Senior Constable .Young, after taking the victims to Windeyer police station, and dressiag .their wounds there, conveyed them to the MuoW Hospual. Horace, aged, six, di.d shortly after admission. James Hector, aged three, is in n critical condition.
