After Sir G. Turner's Seat.

FOU'R EAGER ASPIRANTS. MELBOURNE, Dec. 27. Arrangements are already being made by the labour leagues to oppose Sir George Turner at the next election. Until recently Sir George Turner was one of the idols of the Labour party. In fa,ct two or three members suggested in the Federal Parliament that it would be a splendid idea if he could be appointed permanent Treasurer of the Commonwealth. Now all this has been altered. Applications were recently invited from persons willing to contest the seat. Four anxious aspirants responded—llr F. C. Gray, an ex-statesman from Prahran ; MiMarshall Lyle, a well-known solicitor who, at tho last State elections, appealed no Brighton to accept him in preference to Mr Bent, and got badly left ; Mr H. Dentry, secretary of the Prahran branch of the Political Labour League ; and JVfr A. C. McKenzie, an unsuccessful candidate for tho S ! t. Kilda scat in the State Parliament. A ballot already held settled the claims of Mr Lyle, who fell to the bottom of the list, and had to, pass out. Mr McKenzie topped the ballot, but failed to secure an absolute majority of the votes. He, Mr Gray, and Mr Dentry will have to go through the ordeal again.
