A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. Never in the history of local goli bas the club, been treated to such an enjoyable day as it was yesterday, The weather was anything but favourable, as, although the rain belt off. the hurricane which was blowing made straight driving a mattei of extreme- difficulty. In spito <>i this some excellent scores were madi and the competitors, by driving low K balls, kept as good a length a: j» was possible. With the wind some / tremendous drives were made, Hoot ' getting one of 270 to 300 yards, and Martin reaching, the green o ( - the fourth hole, a distance of 231 yards, in one shot, on two occasions. The match was among l the four professionals, Maclaren and Mnrth playing Hood and Hutchison.: Th'i "' former won on. the last green. At one stage in the game the winner: were five up, but by dogged play th< others drew level, until they wen leading toy roe with only two nolo; to play- Martin, by a brillianl three a* the " coffin," made th< match all square, and a poor drir( by Hood and one by Hutchison which put them into trouble, gavi a fairly easy win to their opponents on the last green. Martin's lasl round pas -a brilliant display, as lit did tne nine- holes in 36, or a n aver age of four. To-day a match has been arranget between the four professionals am four local players, an .amateur playing with a. professional.
