"Patent Medicines."
REGULATION REGARDING FOB- . MULAE. A MODIFICATION^ (Per Press Association.) , WELLINGTON, Dec. ISO. JVitih reference to the recently gazetted regulations concerning so-call-ed patent medicines, Sir Joseph Ward to-night made the following statement : —"I ihave decided, in view, of representations made and the alleged injury that would have been done to reputable medicaments now on the market, to modify the regulations in the fallowing manner. Instead of requiring the contents to bie set out on the packet it will bo necessary only to deposit the formula with the Minister for Public Health. So far as that pant of the regulation referring to those mixtures containing poison being required to bear the words 'This contains poison' on the outside is coni cerncd, no valid- reason has been ad- | diicttl why this should not come into force. The undoubted injury Ito child life which is beingi caiwed by the continued and indiscriminate administration of medicines containing narcotics renders this course essential." Sir Joseph states that the regulations will not come into forco till June, 1005. They will be interpreted liberally und without harshness.
