SHIP OVERWHELMED BY HUGE WAVE. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCES. (Resolved Dec. 19, 9.,43 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 19. During' a terrilic gule on the 9th an immense wave nearly engulfed the ship Invercargill, while on a voyage from Sydney. Eight of the crew were washed the length of tiic ship, and nearly carried overboard. The saloon cabin, forecastle, and galley were filled with water, and everything within ivas destroyed, while a lifeboat and the compasses were washed overboard.

The cargo shifted, and much of it had to be jettisoned in order to right the ship. The captain rigged up temporary steering gear, a nd reached Queenstowtij with his crew in a terrible plight.
