Seeing that the police and the guide barred the way, Ellis suddenly sprang back, but as he did so the police rushed him and had Mm disarmed in a moment. . .
Ellis was well supplied with ammunition. There were three beli* around his body, each full of cartridges. The coat he wore was the one he had when last seen at the btoshman'B camp at Te Awaito.
The police engaged in tho cfc&ile had many rough experiences in the wild country through which tb» search was carried out.
Tho man Ellis, captured on Saturday, was charged at Walptmm—aft— Monday with tjtejutfdßfoT son 'fom Hirst's house, and was remanded to appear In Wellington on th# 19th.
