(W* are not responsible for opinions expressed by correspondents.) HOLIDAY FARES. (To the Editor.) Sir,—l fear that the best endeavours of our townsfolk to secure holiday reduction of fares from the Union Steam Ship Company will only end in dismal failure and vexation of spirit. The monopoly held by this company is fully taken advantage of, and ran for all it is worth. Still, the splendid support it receives from this district indeed warrants us in asking for a concession at this particular juncture. To say that the preseat fares are moderate' would .be a great stretch of imagination, for, to speak the plain truth, tihey are exceedingly high, and are likely to be until this monopoly is broken up. The yearly bal-, ance-sheet of this company reveals! the true ptate of affairs as to their profits, and it would be only a graceful act on their part to give their clients some little concession at holiday time.—l am, etc., CITIZEN.
