For some time past sporting men have been anxiously awaiting developments in the thiid of the appeals springing out of the Gladsome case. In the first Gladsome was disqualified by the appeal judges, ' who reversed the decision of theWellington Racing Club ; in the second Mr, Stead's horse, Bagpipes, was disqualified .by the judges, who reversed the decision of uhe Cantorbury Jockey Club ; and in the last case the same club has disqualified Petrovna, whose owner has lodged an appeal against the decision. As Sir George Clifford owns the horso which would be the winner if Potrovna'9 disqualification is upheld, he has to appoint a substitute chairman of conference to act in his stead. We loam that. Mr Samuel has been appointed the substitute, and that it now devolves on him to perform all the duties which Sir «. •Clifford would otherwise discharge t in regard to the appeal, including -the selecting and appointing of the judges and fixing the place and time of hearing. It is to be hoped that mo unnecessary delay will occur in deciding the case, and thai this will J he the last that will be heard of a «>nes of differences which hascauswl much trouble to various clubs, and threatened at one time to produce » *nous state of things i„ regard to the respect which clubs should pay to the decisions of the final Court oi Appeal in racing matters. The committee of the Taranaki , Jockey Club met on Friday evening Mr O Samuel m the chair. The dit quahficat.on of Joseph Ansley for riding at an unregistered meeting at Strathmore last February was removed. A request for similar treatment made on behalf of Richmond Johnson was refused. After consideration of an application bv the °7w ?l Unicorn H was delved ■ that the committee adhere to its previous decision in disqualifying the horse for taking part in an unregistered meeting." Jockeys' licenses were granted to Bert Towers and Thos. McCann. The Taranaki Agricultural Society was granted per- , mission to use the club's ground for the a»nual show on December Ist The question of the ambulance was again discussed, and the secretary was inntructed to write to the various country clubs.
