Exhibition Committee.
The committee met on Tuesday evening, when there was a fair attendance, Mr Hal. Ooodacre presiding. A letter from Messrs Bickerton and Company, Christchurch, in reference to providing a fireworks display on one or two nights was received. They offered the committer 20 per cent, on gross takings, and asked for a guarantee of £2O to cover expenses of coming to New Plymouth. Some discussion ensued, Mr Jay moving that an offer of 30 per cent. be made to the company, with £2O guarantee, under certain conditions. Mr Alexander suggested that the committee carry out a display itself. This was lost, and Mr J. Jones moved a further amendment that the committee accept 35 per cent, and give no guarantee. Messrs Green and C. Carter urged that before making any definite arrangement the committee ask Messrs Bickerton for full particulars of the programme they propose to submit. Mr Jones agreed to add to his amendment that the programme to be submitted be approved by the committee. This was also lost, and Mr Carter suggested that particulars of the company's proposed display be obtained. This suggestion also failed to find favour, and yet another by Mr Alexander that Messrs Bickerton be asked to state the cost of sending experts to carry out a certain programme lapsed for want of a secon dor. The original motion, after nearly an hour's discussion, was then carried.

A letter from the senior officer of the' naval squadron at Sydney in reference to the presence of warships * at New Plymouth was received. Mr Jones, reporting on the subject of cigar-making, stated that in view of various conditions that would be imposed it was not advisable to go on with the matter. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE. Mr P. B.
