Wellington Gun Fatality.
THE INQUEST OPENED. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 8. A Coroner's inquiry was opened today concerning the death of Gunner Palmer, the victim ,of yesterday's explosion at Font Ballance. Captain Hume, commandant of artillery, said the gun had been in um a little over throe years. About twenty rounds had been llrod at tfe* time of the accident. Witness shifted his position before firing. " H« moved to a position away from Uj« direct rear of the gun because,he did not like standing immediately behind guns while they were fired. Dr. Mason deposed that deceased's right arm was practically blown off. There was a wound in his side and. probably bis lungs were ruptured. The inftuesf was adjourned,, until to-morrow, when some of the men in hospital may be able to gin evidence The men are doing . w*ll, though Bombardier Petersen's condition is still serious.
