Swimming Sports.

The wet weather interfered greatly with the success of the Swimming Club's opening sports held in the Saltwater Baths on Thursday afternoon. The opening ceremony by ti.e Mayor was dispensed with, while as regards competition many of those intending to enter declined to do so, consequently the events wc-re robbed of much of their interest. The officials wore : J utlges, Messrs A. E. \Vatkin aud \V. L. Newman ; sturter, Mr W. Roberts ; timekeeper, Mr W. Parker. Mr W. Lintz judgod the diving event. Spring Boai<d Dive.— Out of seven entrants B. Stohr was placed first, with Seon second, the judges having dilliculty in separating- these two. 33 Yards Handicap, for boys.—Only t»'o, Lang and Blyth, started, the former beating his opponent by several yards. <>6 VaKls Open Handicap.—Gibbon, 'Sjc, 1 ; Jlatdgitoavesi, 2sec, 2 ; 1), Stohr, 6soc, 3. Five started. At the turn Gibbon and Stohr were leading, Hardgraves gradually wealing dqwn the latter, just beating o i' 01 ~S ecolld I ,lace - Time, 49sec. Kelay Race, lour times across the o I 1 R. Ii Standish, C. Seabright, and VV. Dyne beat S 1 Handles, A. Kivell, W. Kivell,' and W. Lrntz. Standish was mainly responsible for his team's win Polo Match.—W.
