Writing to the Church News on August 25tb, from Switzerland, Bishop Julius (of Christchurch) said ho hoped to sail for New Zealand at tlie end of the year.
Sir William Russell took leave of members of Parliament on Monday night, prior to his trip to England. He hopes to catch the P. and O. liner Q t Sydney on November 2fith. Sir William expects to retwn to the colony about June next.
After bring connected with the Hawke's Hay Herald for thirty-three yed.r,, during the last twenty foreman printer, Mr Walter Beyer has decided to go into business for himself, This week ho takes over the Mamtwatu Herald, published at Foxton. Before leaving Napier Mr Beyer received a presentation from the staff of the office in which ho had spent such a long period. A moating of tho office-bearers of tho Stratford Presbyterian Church was held on Monday night for the purpose, the Rev. B. Hutson informs the Post, of considering! a petition by Mr H, Morison to the Genera! Assembly of the Church. The petitioners complained of unconstitutional treatment by the Presbytery in regard to matters brought before the Assembly last year. The Session! decided to forward the petition in duo order and to prepa.'e an nn- ' swer in no far as it concerned them. The liev. Hutwon informed the meeting that in view of tho persistent persecution which lie alleged he was subjected by certain persons and the consequent irritation to the congregation, he would ask leavo of the Presbytery to resign bis charge.
