MANAWATU A. AND P. ASSOCIATION, /Per Press Association.) "PALMERSTON N., Nov. 2. The. nineteenth Metropolitan Show of the Mano-watu and West Coast A. and I'. Association opened quietly to-day in overcast weather. The j exhibits were not as forward as usu- ' al. Many visitors arrived from north and south last night, and there promises to be the usual tax on accommodation. Produce, home iiudus- : tries, horticultural items, works of ; .n't, and poultry were judged rather j ■lowly this morning, and pi«s in t:he aiternoon. To-morrow cattle, sheep, a.'.d horses will be taken. Friday will be "People's Day." So far the .mncipal prize winners in poultiy are J. H. Manttan, J. 1). Cox, E. H. Holland, W. Cotton., Manson and Jreen, of Palmerstoii ; P. \V. France, P. Iloig, Wellington; Mainwaring, | tlalcom.be ; T a plin Bros., Wair a rapa; Jas. Grant, Oroua Bridge; A. Roxburgh, Otaki ; F. J. France, Wellington ; and local exhibitors were the principal winners in the pigeon classes.
WAIKATO A. AND P. SHOW. HAMILTON, Nov. 2. The thirteenth annual »how of the Waikato A. and P. Association opened to-day in magnificent weather. The number of entries in stock was not so large as last year, but there were in reality more stock on the ground than in any previous year, the duplication of entries having been abolished on this occasion. Implement manufacturers were exceptionally well represented. The quality of stock, taken all together, was superior to that of previous years. Draught liorses were fewer n numbers titan hitherto. Crowther and Bell's Master Deans and W. Taylor's Maid Royal were awarded Cattle were good, and the follo|winig chalni(';onshi|fi were awarded—Shorthorh cow, W. Taylor's Idaiia IV. ; Angus bull, Alex. Aitken; Angus cow, W. S. Allen ; pedigree Jersey bull, Mrs F. L. Wright's Doctor; cow, Mrs Wright ; yparling Ayrshire bull, the Department of Agriculture's Earl of Itrumdow; cow, the Department of Agriculture's Tulipi. Sheep were generally good in quality, but lacked .onditiom. Champion in Lincoln ewes and rams, C. T. Barriball ;, iCnglish Leicester rams, Department jf Agriculture; ewes, Thos. Stone ; Shropshire rams and ewes, Thos. Stone; Southdowns, the Department of Agriculture excelled in both owes and rams.
ASHBURTON SHOW. ASHBURTON, Nov. 2. The weather was fine for the 27 th annual show, and the attendance in excess of the first day last year. The total entries were 1227, as against 1345 last year, the decrease being attributable to the decision of the implement combine not to exhibit. There was an increase in sheep, horses, and dairy produce classes. The judges were specially pleased with young stock in the draught classes, and expressed themselves to the effect that the animals were the best they had ever seen. The following are the principal prize batei-a :—Sheep—Lincoln, R. Tarbotron, T. N. Digby, J. Uonifant ; Bolder Leicester, W. Anderson, T. tllackley ; Southdowns, J. C. D. Grigg, J. Croy, J. Tackor; Shiopfiu'res, J. W. itadgers, T. E. Upton ; Corrlodales, J. Strihgfcllow ; Hylands, W. P. Kellock ; fat, J. H. Muirhead, W. J. Silcock ; lambs, J. H. Muirhead, J. Cowan. Pigs— W. Wills, W. Moses. Horses—John Small, T. Taylor, J. Shearer, J. C. D. Grigg, W. Croy.
