Anglican Synod.

(Per Press Association), CHRISTCIIUHCH, Nov. 2. The Diocesan Synod was opened to-day, Archdeacon Harper presiding in the absence of Bishop Julius Clergy and laity were fully represented, und the Primate and BWiops of Waiapu, Nelson, and Wellington were present by imitation. 'lte president delivered nn eloquent address, referring with deep regret to the absence of Bishop Julius through illness, and expressing Q hops f o r his speedy recovery. Reference was made to the opening of the Cathedral, and to the claims of Uw Maori mission on the people. The chiof feature of 'tlie address was a discussion of the necessity for the church in New Zealand being allowed liberty to change its constitution. Ho pointed out that since thb constitution was framed the position as between i the mother ohurch and the church in the colony had changed, and before long tho question of selfgovernment must lie faced.
