Tho old pound is too far away from the town. Tho council hold their monthly meeting on Monday night next, when applications for the positions of clerk, librarian, foreman and poundkeeper will be discussed. I notice that out of sax names eu,b- ---' nutted by the inspector in his re- , commendation for free tuition at the I New Plymouth High School, live of . the scholars attend the Waitara school. Th'is must reflect great credit on the teachers. The inspector, in his report, regretted that the country scholars were handicapped owing to | the late arrival of the morning train at New Plymouth.
On Thursday the Wesleyans open three days' Irazaar in St. John's Hall. Mr W. T. Jennings, M.H.H., has consented to open the bazaar, which is an aid of the parsonage fund. The New Zealand Shipping Company are sending a t">at to loa.l wool in December. The Waitara Cricket Olub find a difficulty in obtaining players this season, and consequently will only bt able to place une team in the field, The team to play Inglewood on Thursday is as follows :—Ogle, Purdio, Knight, Dowsett, Hawkins, E. Sarten, J. Sarten, G. Andrews, C. Dugdale, P. Scringeour, W. E. Skelton. The various booths in connection with the Waitara Racing Club's meeting on Nov. 24 were purchased as follows:—Publican's booth, £2O, F. Calgher ; luncheon booth, £4 7s Gd, Hughes Bros. ; outside refreshment, £2, Mrs Jones. The Waihi Sports Club hold their annual meeting at Waihi on Nov. 9.
