Christchurch Cathedral.

(Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 1. The new portion of the Anglican Cathedral, comprising: the north and south trnnsopts and the chancel, wus consecrated to-day by the Primate, Bishop Neville, in the presence of a congregation numbering somewhere about two thousand people. The Bishops of Wellington, Waiapu, and Nelson assisted, and about sixty diocesan clergymen were present. The service was most Impressive, and the Primate preached an eloquent sermon, dwelling- especially on the need of erecting churches worthy of their purpose. The cathedral is now completed, according to the original plan of Sir Gilbert Scott, at a cost of £72,000 of which all but £3OOO has beeii subscribed. The total internal length of the whole magnilicent building is 194 feet, the width of the nave 44 feet, and the aisles are each 17 feet in width, the nave and aisles 106 feel, and the extreme length across the transits is 08 feet.
