Sergeant Haddrell left on Monday morning on a visit of inspection to the Opunake district. Mr Edwaid Lyndon, a very old identity, formerly a leading auctioneer of Napier, died on Friday, aged 85.
Mr E. I'. Webster, secretary of tho Taronaki Agricultural Society, leaves for Paluierston by the mail train this morning in oixler to attend the Manawatu show.
Mr A. 11. Willis, M.H.H., will carry out his intention of starling on a round-the-world trip in December/but Mre Willis' health will not permit ol her accompanying him. Captain Grant, formerly in the vice of the Union Steamship, Company, and for many years in charge of the Takapuna, has been given command of the Nelson trader Tasman.
Dr. Valintine, chief health officer, was In New Plymouth on Monday. During the afternoon he visited the Central School with Mr W. E. Spencer, the Education Board's inspector.
Mr C, V, Skerrett, who conducted the appeal of the Newtown licensees to the Privy Council, was entertained at a banquet last nigh* by over one hundred prominent citizens. Sir Joseph Ward was among those present.

At Chrisitchurch on Tuesday, ;Miss Maud Jeffries, the eminent English actress, at present leading lady with tho Williamson Dramaric Company, was married to Mr J. B. N. Osborne, of Victoria. Miss Jeffries was the original Mercla In "The Sign of the Cross" in London, and was leading lady for the lato Mr Wilson Barrett when that actor first visited Australia.
