Westport Coal.

(Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Oct. 31. With reference to the cable from Sydney respecting Westport coal, the general manager says the whole thing is a mere rumour. Tho company has iveoived no complaints from the Admiralty about excessive friability.

Tho Sydney Morning Herald lays that It is stated on excellent authority that a report adverse to Westport coal has been forwarded by the naval authorities at Sydney to the Admiralty. The report admits that the coal is unquestionably good lor steaming purposes, but it appears It lias tile cardinal fault—excessive friability, and that a substantial percentage turns to dust after being stacked for an., length of time.
