Mr C. J. Stone hae been appointed inspector under tho Dairy industry Act. Mr D. Dabson, a member of the recent F.niglisih football team, left Sydney on October Isti for a trip among the islands of the Now llobrides Group. The death is announced of Mr James Henry Cotton, ono of the oldest reslidejits of Ndlson, who arrived in Tasinan Bay in the ship Emma Colvin, fifty-two years ago. Mr Cotton was alio of the veterans) of the Maori war in Taranaki. The funeral took place a t Havelock on Wednesday of Mr John Fitzpatriclc, on early settler in the Sounds, district, who arrived in tho colony in 1871. He went to Waka'"arina in 1804, and subsequently took up farming' in the Peloni's Sound. Mr Fitzpatrick, who was eigihty-two years of age, had many reminiscences of the early days on the Victoria diggings. He was a« acquaiatanco of Peter Lawlor, but took no active part in the Eurokia stockade atTair.
