Railway Matters.

The question of thy railway timetable formed the subject upon which u deputation of nearly twenty business men of the town waited upon the District Trallic Manager, Mr Strinigleinan, yesterday morning.

Air Al. Kraser, president of Uk Chamber of Commerce, introduced the deputation. Mo s u id the first matter to be brought .before the munager was the desirability of having a train to arrive here about 9.30 or 10 a.m. in order that children might attend the town schools. In reply to questions Mr Stringleman said he understood that. Lhe through service from Auckland to Dunediu would be commenced on November .Ist. He did not think the Napier train would connect with the New I 'lymouth-Wellington expivss.

Mr (ioodacro gave his. idea as to how it could bo done, and urged that it would be a great convenience to Napier an|d other residents along the line. A train should arrive here about 10 a.m., with anothei leaving Wanganui at ti a.m., arriving here al 112.H0' p.m., returning at 2 p.m., or one hour later than at present.

Mr Council pointed out the great drawback occasioned to the dairy industry if the butter did not arrive here till iii.HO, while Mr King contended that good reason would have to be given for altering the I p.m. train, which was very popular and convenient.

Mr I'Yaser said the Chamber ol Commerce did not go as far as Mr (Joodacre in its requests, winch were confined to the early morning train, the through service, and the Napier connection.

Mr Slringlemun having promised to bring these matters before the depantment, the deputation thanked him and withdrew.
