The Department of Industries ami Commerce has received the 1'0110..ing cablegram from the Agent-Gen-eral, dated London, Ist : There has been a better tone in the mutton market this week. The average price of Cuntenbury mutton is 4Jd for light weights, and 4d for heavy weights. Dunedin, Southland, and Wellington Meat Export Company mutton 4-sd nominal. Otlie-' North Island mutton -Id —firm. There ha? been no alteration in the lamb market since last week. The beef market is depressed owing to lurge supplies coming forward. The average prices to-day ait- : Hin|jquarters New Zealand beef 3>d. fjrequartcrs 2]d—nominal. The butter market in steady. The average price of choicest New Zealand butter (stored) is 99s per cwt ; new make of Australian today is quoted, at 112s, Danish 120s. No alteration in the cheese market since lost week. Hemp.—Tho market is firm, and good business has been done for October shipments. Tho price of NewZealand hemp, good fair Wellington gratde, on spot, to-day, per ton, is £3O, and Manila hemp, fair current grade, on spot, £37. There has been no alteration in the cocksfoot seed market siince last week.
The hop market is firm, and prices' continue to advance. Supplies will be short.
