Wesleyan Church.
The quarterly meeting of cirruit officials was held on Alonday evening in the junior schoolroom, when there was , a large attendance, the Rev. J. N. Buttle presiding. Tho chairman reported tho membership to lie 276, including, the Coast Mission returns. Owing to items which w o uld be non-recurrent, the expenditure exceeded the income by £l3 8s sd. It Was anticipated thi» would be met by the ordinary revenue of Uie ensuing quarter. Special collections were authorised to be niado os follows, viz. —Foreign missions, October 16th; South Iload Sunday-school anniversary, November 2()tli : Whiteley Church anniversary, lVcembor 11th. Returns from Sunday-schools in town nnid suburbs showed :—Schools, 4 ; scholars, 309 : average attendance, 222 ; teachers, 3(3 ; average attendance, 33. Five schools are being worked in Connection with the Const Mis'iion. On the nomination of the chairman, Mr It. P. Williams was unanimously recommended to the Synod as a candidate for the ministry. High appreciation of the results of Mr Williams' services was expressed by several present. On the motion of Mr Carter, seconded hy Mr Ambnry, it was resolved by a large majority, to request Conference to appoint a probationer instead of a home missionary as the second agent in the circuit, and on the motion of Messrs Nenl and Carter (circuit stewards), an unanimous invitation was extended to Mr Williams to till the position, if the application be granted. The stewards' also moved that an invitation be given to the chairman to continue «» superintendent. Considerable discussion ensued as to the location of tlie minister's residence, and the matter was adjourned fior |B , week. Mr J. .1. TUinbull (Const Mission) was unanimously Invited to remain in connection with that mission, but staled his intention to retire from home mission work ; he would, however, continue to fulfil duty until the next Conference. Messrs Turnhull and Williams were appointed substitute representatives to the annual Synod at Ilawero. Mr Nenl was appointed representative on the committee to consider the question of circuit boundaries, which he is to report to Synod. The desirableness of a sepniote and independent. Conference for New Zealand wat unanimously affirmed, and the Synod was requested to recommend the annual eemip-enee 1o secure tliis A from Wihitriey Church choir for certain collections for the organ fund was remitted to tbenext meeting, after which the meeting closed with tho Benvdictlotu
