THE ROYAL COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. AN INJUDICIOUS ATTACK. MELBOURNE, September 14. Judgu Murray's ivport states that the natives hail no immediate idea of attacking the ship. They wished to Hade, but being mudo suddenly awure that their comrades had been, to their view, treacherously suited, they sought vengeance by the only means lit hand. About 200 shots weit; fired, eight natives were killed on the spot, und ttiose more or less seriously wounded amounted to ut least iglit. it was due to the strcnuoi, exertional of Commandant Bruce in compelling tlve police to cease liring that there was not more bloodshed. Neither did he give any order to tire, nor anticipate a conflict, and he stands completely exonerated. They hurriedly joined what they thought a necessary und meritorious defence against tho attack on the ship. The report adds : " If Judge Robinson had been able to give his own uccount of the affuir, it might have shown something more than now appeurs. It might have put a new light upon Ms action." Judge Murray recommends tho Government of tlio territory to consult tho Executive Council before taking any important step that might lead to collision with the natives.
