Volunteer Reunion.

The unnual reunion of the Taranaki Rifles, held in the Drill llali last cv<ning, was one of the most successful of these enjoyable functions. Captain Weston presided over a large attendance, having on his right Colonel Ellis V.D., 0.C., and on his loft Miajor Okey, V.D. Amongst the othor visitors were Major Coleman, V.D., Captain and Quartermaster Cock, V.D., Chaplain Major Evans, Major Dempsey (cadet battalion). Captain Mills, Lieutenants Okey and Goldwater, ex-Lieu-tenant Black, and Messrs Dockrill and I'enn. Apologies for absence were received from his Worship the Mayor (Mr R. Cock), Lieutenant Lever, and Mr Oliver Samuel.

After the usual loyal toast a capital programme of song and story was gone through, interspersed with numerous toasts. As is usual in volunteer circles pride of place was given to the toast " The Officer Commanding, and tho Battalion Staff," proposed by the chairman, and responded to by Colonel Ellis and Chaplain-Major Evans. Then followed that of " The Army and Navy," proposed by Mr Dockrill and responded to by Major Coleman, an ex-Imperial officer. Lieutenant Okey gave that of 'The Ex and Honorary Members," to which Captain Cock responded. Other toasts were "The Taranakl Guards," proposed by Captain Weston and replied to by Captain Mills, of that corps ; " New Plymouth School Cadets," proposed by Major Coleman, and replied to by Major Dempsuv, O.C. ; " Tho Ladies," by Lieutenant Goldwater, for whom Captain Weston replied, and " The Press," given by Major Okey. Those rendering musical and elocutionary items were Captain Mills, Co-lour-Sergeant Armitage, Sergeant Beadle, Privates Humphries and Clark, am) Messrs J. Stoyle, Kinnington, and L. Smith, Mr E. GohJing acting aa accompanist. A most enjoyable evening was brought to ■a close by the singing of the " National Anthem," and " Auld Lang Syne," and (ho giving of three cheers for Captain Weston.
