THE CONGRESS AT LEEDS
LONDON, September 8. Mr Ben Tillett'a resolution «t the | Leeds Congress tn favour of the instructing eff a Parliamentary Committee to send representatives to international congress conferences in order to bring the workers into | closer fraternal touch, was negatived by 246 to 83. Mr Walter, of Belfast, deprecated mere sentiment in these matters. They must descend to bedrock facte, and each country must do its best to improve the condition of Us | workmen. An interchange of delegates v.-r>s unnecessary.
A resolution protesting against any form o'f coii. .'riptlon was carried unanimously. One speaker described King Edwaivl as England's only statesman, showing the way to arbitration and peace.
A resolution upholding free trade was carried unanimously.
Another in favour of an eight hours' (lay was adopted.
