Chamber of Commerce.

The quarterly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Wednesday evening. Mr VV. Eraser (president) was in the chair, and there were also present—Messrs Samuel, 3ovett, Connett, King, Paul, Cock, George, Coldwater, Fitzherbert, Patau, Long, Monteath, Ewing, Morgan, Morrison, Avery, Arnold, Penn Quilliuni, and Bedford (secretary). Me.isrs G. Pott, J. S, S. Medley, H. Jay, and Captain. Hood were elected members of the chamber. The Tikorangi branch of the Fanners' Union wrote thanking the chamber for the action taken on behalf of the back-blocks. Correspondence was read from various local bodies with respect to the proposal to send a deputation to Wellington to urge the chums of the back-blocks, the result beijy that it was found impracticable to send a deputation. Mr 1< rnser explained how their plans bad been upset, anil after a short discussion it was decided to leave the matter In the hands of the council. The chairman said he had received some valuaible information about the roads, also a map from the Commissioner of Crown Lands, which would bs useful to the chamber. A discussion to 0 k place upon the proposed alterations in the railway time-table in oixier to give a through service between Auckland and Dunodin, the members generally approving of uho proposals.

Mr Fitzhenlwrt proposed that steps be taken to bring before the Minister tho advisnbleness of establishing a night express train service between New Plymouth and Wellington.

Mr Govett seconded pro forma. Mr Samuel moved, as an amendment, that it is inexpedient to the Government to inaugurate such a service. Mr Paul seconded.

Tho amendment was carried. There being no further business the meeting adjourned.
