Primitive Methodist Church.

Thero was a crowded attendance last .night at the newly-erected Primitive Methodist Church, when a sacred concert, followed by an oratorio, " The Holy City," were given, ' and greatly enjoyed by thoHc present. The programme was opened by Mr Tu-tschu, who played Mascagui's " Ave .Maria " with great taste. " Angels Ever Bright and Fair " was beautifully sung by Miss Chong. Mn Thompson gave a cupital rendition of " Calvary," and Miss Am-luii-y was successful with hi-r solo " Come Unto Me." A song bj Mr Lee brought the first part to u dose. For tlie oratorio there was tin ellicieii't orchestra, led by Mi A, L.Cooke, and a strong choir of over sixty voices. From the opening number by the orchestra right to the final ononis the oratorio wut thoroughly enjoy aide, and Mr A. E. Fletcher, who conductod, must be congratulated upon the almost perfect manner in which the oratorio was rendered. The soloists were -Miss Murphy, Miss Nixon, and Mr 11. Nixon. Miss Murphy was in splendid voice and did full justice to the numbers that fell to her part. Miss Nixon also sang extremely well. The duet between Miss Murphy and Miss Nixon was one of the gems of the evening. Mr 11. Nixon got through his share of the programme in creditable style although ho was slightly overweighted at times. The whole concert was very successful, and not a little of that success was due to the pianiste, Miss Oldfield, and the organist, Mr E. A. Just bc _ fore the audience separated Mr C E. Rellringer, on behalf of the tees, thanked the members of the other church choirs/or their assistance, and mentioned that the ten and public meeting would take place to-day, commencing at 5.30 plll and that at the after meeting aii i dresses and musical items would be given. ■
