Harbour recently, in the shape of a cable, 60 fathoms in length, to which was attached an anchor of probably two tons weight. From the position where the cable and anchor were recovered it is conjectured they belonged to the American ship Flying Mist, which went adrift in the last week of August, 1862.
A certain truant officer employed by an Education Hoard in the other island is regarded as a species of Nero by 'the other boards, who are gazing at his exploits with wistful admiration. The officer in question has recently distinguished himself by successfully prosecuting for non-at-tendance dt children a police sergeant's wife, the chairman of a school committee, and a man of mart on a drainage board, all in different districts. The Board that employs Inini is enthusiastically backing him up.
St. Louis, where the exhibition is held, is wide open on Sundays. A New Zealand visitor writes:—Trams were rushing to and fro in every direction, shops were open, and men were at sers-by to walk in and buy their wares. What is to be soon in the morning is but a homoepath'ic specimen oi what meets one's gaze as he walks up and down in the city during the evening hogrs.
