HOME MARKETS. LONDON, September 4. The following are the Frozen Meat Trade Association's Smithfield market quotations for the undermentioned classes of frozen moat, based on actual sales of not less than 100 carcases of mutton or lamb, or 25 carcases of beef of fair average quality. Tliese quotations are not for selected lines, but for parcels fairly representative of the bulk of shipments ; nq,w on the market). - Frozen mutton : Canterbury" medium, 56 to 64 lbs, 4Jd ;; Dunedin and Southland, 56 to 641bs, 4Jd ; North Island test, 55 to 651bs, 4 7-16 d. New Zealand lambs : Canterbury light, 28 to 36 lbs, 5 7-lGd ; Dunedin and Southland and North Island, 28 to 42(bs, fij.d. New Zealand beef: Ox fores, 180 to 2201h3, 2gd ; ox hinds, 180 to 220 lbe. River Plate beef: Ox fores 2Jd; - hinds, 3d. I
New Zealand hemp—Firm. Fair competition. August-October shipment, £2B 10s to £2B 15s. Kauri In stock, 1264 cases.
Loather—Firmer. Best New Zealand 13Jd. Basils irregular, and generally , a half-penny cheaper. First New Zealand, 3s, Hides—Small business and nominal prices. Queensland heavy ox 5Jd, light 5 9-16 d, cow 5 5-16 d. Eight thousand five hundred quarters of Australasian September-Oc-tober shipment sold at 33s 9d and 16,000 quarters at 32s 6d.
HOMEBUSH STOCK SALES. (Received September*s, 11.'28' p.m.) SYDNEY, September 5. Sheep showed a weaker tendency. Crossbred wethers made 9s 3d to 20s 3s. Cattle were firm. Host bullocks £lO, good.£B 10s, best cows £7 10s, good £6 ss. Best boef averaged 22s 6d per 1001b.
AGENT-GENERAL'S ADVICE. WELLINGTON, September 5. Tho Department of Industries and Commerce has ix?ceived the following cablegram from the. Agent-General, dated London, 3rd inst :
Mutton—The market is dull, but holders are firm. The market is affected by thp expectation of light arrivals later in the year. Average price- to-day for Canterbury mutton is 4jd per lb, for Dunedin, Southland, and Wellington Meat Export Co.'s brands 4fd ; for other brands of North Island mutton 4d, and River Plate mutton 3|d per lb. Supplies of- home-grown lamb are heavy, and are lowering the price of New Zealand»lamb. Canterbury brands from sfd to 5Jd per lb, others from s|d to s»d per lb ; River Plato lamb s}d per lb. There was scarcely any demand for beef. Hindquarters of New Zealand beef 4d per lb, fores 2|d per lb. Supplies of River Plate beef aro heavy. Plate chilled hinds 3J per lb, 'ores 2}<l per lb.
Butter—The market is quiet, and prices slightly weaker. Choicest New Zealand butter" to-day is 98s per cwt, Danish 113s, Australian, Canadian and Argentine 94s per cwt. Cheese—The market is firm. Finest New Zealand 43s per cwt, Canadian 445.
Hemp—Steadier demand, and improving, but prices are unchanged. The presont stock is London is 14H5 tons. Manila hemp, fair current grade, 0 n spot to-day, is £36 10s per ton.
