Trees end plants sold at low rates. At the mart fowl?; made Is 6d to 2s 2d, ducks 2s to 3s, pure-bred fowls 2s 3d to 3s 9d, Furniture and sundries sold at prices in favour of purchasers* . Eattleu-r-At Waiwakmho on Tuesday the yards were full. Bidding for young cattle was not so brisk as the previous sale and prices a trifle easier, attributable, no doubt, to the rough weather experienced during the p"ast fortnight. Dairy cattle were dull of sale and until feed becomes more plentiful there is not much prospect of improvement. Calves made 259 to : 38s, yearlings £2 7s to £2 lis 6d, extra quality do. £3, heifers in calf £3 10s to £4, springers £4 5s to £4 16s, springing cows £3 lfls.. to £4 10s, store do. £3 to £3 IDs, fat do. £5 to £5 ss, 3 year forward buUocks £5 19s. On Thursday at Urenui I held a clearing sale on account of Southey Baker, Esq, There was a large attendance from all parts of the district, but owing to the heavy rain which commenced shortly before noon and also to the stock being yarded so far from the homestead, it was round impossible to offer the whole of the stock, the dairy cows, Jersey .tails.and a few younig cattle being SfleWtover until the following, day. The horses were an exceptionally good lot, 1 and were well competed for,, and sold well* The pigs were pure-bred Berksbires from Messrs Slack Bros.,' noted strain, and showed lots of quality. Oats.—Speculative exports of stout bright grain are extensive, freight again having ibeen lowered. Merchants locally are deferring purchasing, looking for, early drop with increased quantities available. Cape orders at Bluff for A grades are experiencing ddmcu'ty in filling. B grade Danish and S-Bills call for Is Bsd, Gartons, Roseberrys and Duns Is 9id, Tartars Is lOd, Canadian* Is lid, rejects Is 6d.
Wheat.—American and foreign reports of crop failures have excited market, values having strengthened, and farmers not anxious to quit. Velvet is firm at 3s 6d, Tuscan 3s sd, Hunters 3s 4d. Feed wheat sells readily coastwise at 2s lid to 3s. Potatoes. Sorts and conditions are variable, sound Derwents realising 30s s.i,, other kinds 25s s.i.
Maize.—Curtailed shipments keeps Cost at 2s 4d s.i. meeting moderate consumption.
Barley.—Limited parcels of feed are changing hands at 2s, malting (inanimate) 3s, milling 2s 6d, pearl barley £l3 b.i., pigmeal £4 10s s.i. Beans.—Demand slack, field returning 3s. t' feVa—Partridge have advanced to 4s', mites 4s 3d, Blue Prussians, overstocked, 3s 6d, split peas £l3 10s bu.., with upward feeling. Grass Seed.—Drossod ryo is change ing- hands ,it 4s i o ss, cocksfoot 5d to "i|d, cowgrass U.v-:, W-clover 955. ADPINGTON STOCK SALE. CHRISTCHURCII, Aug. 31. At the Addington market to-day the entry of 252 head of fat cattle was in excess of requirements, and there was a fall of about 10s per head. Steers ranged from £6 7s (id to £ll 12s 6d ; for very prime heifers £6 10s to £9 5s and a few to £lO as 6d ; cows, £5 10s to £8 15s. Primest steers 255, good 22s to 23s ; cows 18s to 20s per lOOlbs. Pigs—A small supply. Baconers sold at previous week's rates. Best at 45s to 51s 6d, lighter 40s to 45s (equal to 4d). Prime porkers were a little easier at 30s to 40e (or 4Jd to 4|d) ; stores made 30s to 375, small 16s to 225, weaners (is to 13s, choppers 66s to 102s.
Fat sheep—A fair entry, which showed lair quality. The sale opened at last week's rates, but competition weakened, and rates were considerably reduced. The market recovered later, and prices were on an average a little lower than previously. Wethers, extra prime to 31s 6d. prime 23s to 27s fid, others' 18s to 22s fid; ewes, extra prime to 275, prime hoavy 21a to 25s 6d. The entry of fat hoggets was small and brought 17b to 20a 9dj

WEEKLY MARKET REPORT.
AUCKLAND, August 31. Horses.—At the Durham yards on I'Yiday scarcely the average number of horses were yarded, competition being keen for anything of a good stamp. Heavy draughts sold from £27 10s to £3B, medium do. £l9 10s to £3O 10s, light harness horses £l2 15s to £2O ss, hacks £6 10s to £2O, spring cart £lO 10s, roadster £B.
Cattle.—On Tuesday at the Newmarket yards dairy and store stock weie yarded in usual numbers and sold at late values. Beef was brought forward in scarcely average quantities ; bidding was dull and prices scarcely up to last week's quotations. Ox beef realised up to 235, and cow 19s to 22s per lOOlbs. Fat steers sold from £6 10s to £lO, fat cows £4 12s fid to £7, dairy cows £5 5s to £B, empty do. £2 12s 6d to £4 4s, calves £1 13s to £2 19s.
Sheep were yarded in average numbers at Newmarket on Tuesday. Competition was extra keen, and prices higiher tha n for many months. We quote:—Fat wethers 14s 6d to 28s 6d, fat ewes 13s 6d to 21s, hoggets 10s 9d to 20s 9d. Some of the Waikato averages were :'—Sixty sheep from Pukerimu 26s Si, 184 wet'hers from Matamata 25s Id, and 120 wethers from Ohaupo 255.
Pigs.—Scarce and wanted. Porkers sold from 18s to £2 lis, weaners 8s 6d to 18s 6d.
On Wednesday at Tuakau there was a small muster of stock and Newmarket rates ruled.
On the some day wo held a clearing sale of live and dead stock on account of Mr C, Woolly. The attendance was large and very satisfactory prices were realised, dairy cows selling from £5 to £lO ss, farm horses £29 ta £34, 2-year-olds, unbroken,, £l4 10s to £2l, wagßpn £3O. On Thursday we held a clearing sale of live and dead stock on account of Mr T. Skelton, Paparata, when good prices were realised. Dairy cows sold from £4 10s to £7 15s, horses £ll 10s to £2O. At Waiuku on Saturday,, for the time of the year, there was a good Diuster, everything selling under the hammer. We sold dairy cows at £4 10s to £7 15s, heifers £4 5s to £6 10s, empty c o ws £2 15a to £4 Bs, 3-year-old steers £5 5s to £6 7s 6d, 2 to 3-year-old do. £4 10s to £5 15s, calves £1 10s to £2 14s; beef at Newmarket rates.
We submitted an extra large catalogue of hides, skins, tallow, etc., on Tuesday.
Hides.—Market firm for all stout lines.—We guote :—Extra stout 6i4 to 6|d, stout s|d to 6d, medium s|d to s|d, light 4Jd to 4Jd ; cow (.best lines) 4id, good 3jd to 4d ; stag 3d to BJd, kip 4d to 4jd, calfskins 5d to 5Jd, do. cut 3Jd to 4Jd. Sheepskins.—Market firm. Best local butchers' made 4s 3d to ss, country do. 4s 3d to 4s 10d, small an J damaged Is 6d to 3s 6d. Tallow.—Market firmer. We sold good lines, in casks and packages, 17s to 17s 9d, seconds 13s to 15s id, rough' fat lid.
Bones, £5. Tails, Is sd. Horsehair Is to Is 2d. Maize.—Supplies very short again, and market firm at 2s 3d on wharf for wholesale lines.
Oats.—Market firm. We quote Bgrade at 2s on wharf. Chaff.—Prime Southern is worth £4 15s, c.i.f.
Potatoes.—Market fully stocked, and prices remain unchanged. Good Canterbury are worth £2 10s on wharf.
Butter.—Good qjuality still very scarce. Prime separator is worth 3d, good farmers' Bd, factory squares lOd to IOJd. Cheese.—No alteration in prices. Demand rather better. BUCKIAND AND SONS' REPORT. (Special to News.) AUCKLAND, September 2. Horses.—Draught colts and fillies are in demand at £32 10s to £4l, aged and worn £8 10s to £29, good hacks and harness £lB to £24 ss, light and ordinary £6 to £l4 10g, weeds £1 10s to £5. At Kumuera lieef sold steadily at better rates, stews making up to 24s for 1001b, and cow to 225.
Sheep, in average supply, sold at a big advance. Wether 3 19s 9d to 28s 9d, ewes (very scarce) 22s to 28s sd, hoggets 18s to 21s. Pigs were ira full supply. Porkers made up to 355, and baconers to 61s.

T sales, B buyers, S sellers, 0 eum div, X ex div. The share market continues fairly brisk with good inqjuiry for Bank and Insurance shares. Bank of New Zealand have further advanced to sales at £6 ss. New Zealand Insurance are inquired for at advanced rates. Woollen shares show improved inquiry. The Auckland mining maricot has again been active and a considerable number of stocks doalt in. Local shares are unchaaged.
