+., , A REDUCTION DECIDED UPON AT NEWCASTLE. MINERS TAKEN BY SURPRISE. (Received August 81, IO.IS p.m.) SYDNEY. August 81. The northern colliery proprietor* have decided to reduce the selling .trice of coal from 11a to 10* per toni, with a corresponding reduction in the hewing rate from 8a lOd to 3s Od, , Notices of the reduction will b* posted to-morrow. The reduction • comes into operation a fortnight hence, and applies only, to colliwt in the Newcastle district. It has come as a surprise to the minors, who bad not expected any reduction till the beginning of qezt year.
