Maids of Honour.
AN INNOVATION IN THli HKIDAL ■ PKOOESSKW. : A short time ago at n Londm wedding the bridesmaids preceded the bride instead of following her to the altar, an American notion, and one that we might well copy. The Knglish idea that' the brt.le should be made the chief object oi' ( the proce99ion is laudable, and to allow lier maids to go in front of her makes her more conspicuous, for they do but call attention to the great personage of the procession, while at the same time they gain more than the usual amount of observation they accomplish for themselves. The chief maid of honour in America walks quite alone ; she is usually the sister of the bride or her dearest friend. There arc also ushers who take their places by the other bridesma'ids iand act as their groomsmen. It is pleasant to have groomsmen among us again, as we are now, if only on account of ulieir amiability as the squires of the bridesmaids after the ceremony, but they do not look well in a procession unless they come behind the bride as her guard of honour.
