Crown Land Transactions
During the year ended March 31st the Lands Department threw open for sale 2,714.117 acres of land, mage up as lollows 1 : —Ordinary Crown lands, opened for lirst time, 1,700,580 acres, previously open,B7o 23G acres ; lands for settlement, opened for first time, 137,349 /teres, previously open, 5982 acres. The operations for New Zealand duriiilg the yilir were as'fioWows (.'ash sales, •115 selectors. 22,489 acres ; occupation with right of purchase 403 selectors, l 1i>,!).~>3 acres ; lease-in-perpetuity, 1019 selectors, 215, 4GG acres ; pastonal and small grazing runs. 187 selectors, 1,101,300 acres: mining and occupation leases 99 .selectors 1 , 4985 acres ; miscellaneous leases, G3O selectors, 133,G86 acres : total, 2813 selectors, 1.G24, 940 acres. There were IGG forfeitures! and surrend'jrs aggregating 415, 701 acres. There are now 21,10:1 Iklasehold lennants on tho books, tho territorial revenue being £247,842, and the total revenue collected £497,21.1 A • table is produced which shows the preference of tenure. They are as follows :—Occupation with right of purcluise, G6 per cent. ; leusc-in-pcrpetuity, 16 per cent. ; cash, 18 I per cent.
