Land Boards.
The Hoard met on Tuesday. Present—The Commissioner ot Crown Lands (ia the chair), Messrs Rattunbury and MeClugga®e. Leave of absence was granted to Mesa's HesJop and Connett on account of illness. Liaud applied for since last meeting ; sec 1, block 9, Aria, 585 acres, David Knight, l.i.p.—Approved. The result of the sale of sec. 41, Huiakama Village, and sec. 34, block 15, Ngatimaru was approved. Transfers were granted : W. A. Jellyman to E. S. itiggall, sec 12, block 1, Ngatimaru ; 11. O'Dontiell and C. Drummond to H. O'Donnell, i sec. 19; block 8, and sec. 7, block 12, Mimi ; S. Lentern to W. Cliainiberlain, sec. 3, block ID, Ngatimaru. W. E. West applied to transfer to S. D. Pope sec. 5, block 9, Upper Waibara.—lt was resolved to approve of this, and an the representation of Mr W. (t. Malone, solicitor for the applicant, an alternative transfer to B. S., and G. S. White will be approved if papers are satisfactory. The following applications to sublet wore, approved :T. 11. and> L. E. Anderson to A. Domibusch, sec. 69, block 14, I'ouatu ; J. W. T a unt to G. 11. Thomas, sec. 68, block 14, I'ouatu ; 11. C. Sefton to L. Ayers sec. 27, block 2, Ngatimaru. Thp matter of the transfer of sec. 1, block 2, Opaku, to R. B. and J. G. Douglas was deferred till next maeting. The application of P. G. Nops to sub-let sec. 7 and 21, block 2, Ngatimaru, to P. R. and 0. C. M. Farnham was refused.
Several mortgages were dealt with. The Board could not see its way to dispose of sec. 639, Patea district, to G. McLean, owing to indications of road metal, but was prepared to grant a yearly tenancy at a rental of 5 per cent, on the value of the land ■in terms of the ranger's report. The plans of the Makahu road deviation in sec. 5 and 18, block 15, and sec. 3, block 16, Ngatimaru, were approved.
Messrs Govett and Quilliam, on ibehulf of Messrs Lehrke • and Armstrong, applied for consent to a grant of timber and tramway riights to W. G. Kyvott, on sec. 19, block 6, Egmont, and for J. Wingio'vo over sec. 4, 7, and 12, block 6, Egmomt. —Consent was given. The matter of the application of A. H. Hyde for permission to erect a temporary sawmill on sec. 1, block 16, Aria, and -take timber therefrom for settlers'* building requirements, was left in the bands l of the Commissioner to deal with.
The District Roads Engineer applied for use of sec. 7, block 1, village of Tatu, reserved for Government buildings, in order to erect headquarters for the use of the Roads Department; also the use of part of the railway reserve at the back, extending to the W'aro road.—Left to the Commissioner, with power to act.
R. Thomas appliod for a grant of a tract of swamp land adjoining part sec. 12,, 3.28, and 129, and sec. 126, Waitara West.—Referred to the Commissioner, with ]>owcr to act.
Messrs Roy and Wilson, on behalf of Agnesl Syme, sole executrix and 'devisee under the will of Win. Syme, deceased, applied for the trochoid of sec. 11. block 5, Upper Waitara.— Approved.
J. Ostler asked if the Board would consent to him and his neighbour Mrs Bennett, exchanging portions of their sections 10 and 11, block 11, Pouatu, in order to obtain better loncing boundaries.—As the matter is under the considlei'aition of the Government no action could lie taken Messrs Malone, McVcagh, and Anderson applied on behalf of Geor™ Cliff and 11. W. Saxton for a grant of the unused portion of Avenue Uoad, in the portions of sec. 03 (riey distract, respectively owned by them. The application was made in pursuance of a resolution, of the Taranaki Provincial Council t 0 exchange tire unused road lime for land taken from the former owner's (Mis W. 0. King) in sec. 7 and 18, Talaramiaka, known as the Pi tone Ro a d junction. Mr Malone waited on the Board with Mr A, Standish, and the latter gave evidence as to the probable attitude he would have taken as agent for the former owner when tho Provincial Council on t.|-,< 9th December, 1807, made the oUVi recorded in the minutes of the Council' as concerning the area to be given jin exchange. After the hearing Ml' Mai,one, in support of the applications, it was decided to postpone consideration of tile matter for a full Board.
■l. Mcklop and H, Heslop applied to surrender sec. 10, block 2, ami svc. 1, block 8, Opaku, as they considered the price too high, and that a new road and deviations of existing roads had taken some of the best of the land.—Deforred, to enable the Board to see if anything could be done to assist the-ay>plicants. HI I'\ Young applied for valuation of improvements on see. 41, village of Iluiakaina.—The value' less-amount due to the Crown, will be paid to the applicant. The Board could not see its way to grant the applications of T. Rrowna for portion of sec. 84, block 10 Pouatu.
Fhe Commissioner reported that Messrs Kilpin and Foster Juu\ paid the rent on sec. 2, block (i, i;,, IK . r Waitara, as reyuired by the Board's ncsolution of ,June last.—Tin-select-or's interewL will be declared forfeited. The Commissioineri was authoiwl to deal with C. S. Kitrop's application for a timber license over Crown lands block 2, Pouatu, and also for pcrmiss'ion to use the waterfall on the jvuitana river f o r power purposes at Uie mill.
