The Guards Ball.

As was expected, there was a brilliant gathering last night in tho Drill Hall on the occasion of tho annual ball of the Tarauakj Guards volunteer corps. The attendance was not too large, and the floor was comfortably filled. Battalion officers and officers of the neighbouring corps had accepted the inyitatiohs to bepresent._ and there was a good of outside volunteers, their uniforms and those of the Guards heightening the spectucular effect, which wus largely contributed to by the wry lavish, yet judicious use of flags, climbing plants, ferns, and flowers. Amongst the guests were several members of the British football team. The arrangements, which had been placed in the hands of n good committee, could hardly have lx>en iiiiprovod upon. First and foremost, the. music by Mr McKinnon Bain's orchestra was such us to please all, and it did so. The floor had he™ carefully prepared, and the committee liad done all else that was requited. The supper was provided on a prodigal scale, delicacies of all kinds in great profusion, and of the most appetising description. The tables in tho supper-room kid been tastefully decorated. The T.R.F. table d coralions wero tho work of MissMivDiarmicl, Miss Standish ami Mrs Black. The "rod, white and blue " wus tho result of Miss Hawkens' i mleavours, and the Guards' table had been decorated by the Misses Skinner. The effect In each cast> was very pretty, and undoubtedly the Guards owe a debt of gratitude to these ladies, to Mrs Cock, and the many members of the Indies' committee to whom much of the success was due. Captain Mills, Bandsman Smith, and Messrs Thompson and Weston acted as M.C's., and iullilk.l their duties admirably. Mr G. 11. White, the secretary, and the general committee deserve tho greatest credit for the success of the function.
