Closing Mines.
(Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, August 16.' Mr Pilcher, manager of the Brunner and Tynesdde Coal Mining Com. pany, states that the notice to tlw employees of thosa mines that ttair services will not bo required aftw Saturday next is the direct remit of the opening of the State collieries, but it is hoped that arrangement* may be made to avoid taking tte the extreme stop of closing down the mines. The Brimmer mine lytat :ea«ed supplying screened coal to tIM railways, and there is not a auftoioirt market for the coal for hold purposes. The Government hag not yet replied to the request' to continue a portion of its order for ' a period, in order to tide over the Jifliculty, and avoid throwing mien out of employment.
