1 i 11ITIS H-T AHAN AKI MATCH. Mr Arndl, secretary of the Turnnaki Union, received word yesterday that the Britishers would probably break their journey to New Plymouth at, Wanganui, and conic on here on Tuesday . Mr Evans, of Christehurch, will fei'ee in the Bi-itish-Taranaki match on Wednesday, it available ; otherwise arrangements will have to be made locally. (To the Editor.) Sir,—Kegardiii'g tho Itrilish-Tara-naki football mutch 1 would like io say a few words through your valuable paper. Seeing that Taranaki is to play ugain«t the British team, and not Wanganui, VVairarapa and Taranaki combined, 1 do not think think it is fair to allow any outsiders to join in the team, esi>eeially as Taranaki can produce quite as good players as any other province. If Taranaki won, well then Taranaki could not very well say that it had proved victorious over tho. British. When Wanganui was asked to join in the authorities turned against us at once and said they would not think of doing so. Now that tliey oiler one m u n, whom we could very well do without, he is accepted. It is combination that, we want, so why put in players who arc totally st range to the majority of the team. Taranaki players have proved themselves better players than either Wanganui, Wellington, or Wairarapa;( therefore they can do justice for Lheir province without outsiders coming in.—l am, etc., C. WESTON, Waitara, August 12th.

Those desirous of securing seats on the terraces 1 for the match next Wednesday should do so at once. There -is 'brisk inquiry and only a limited number of seats. The railway arrangements for Wednesday are published. The third train northwards will not be available at excursion rates 1 this side of Nguire. The 6.5 p.m. return train goes right through to Wanganui, stopping at stations en route. 'the Taranaki .banner is not nearlyso dilapidated as was expected , and Air Bellringer bus arranged for making it pjiescutaible. Unless a certain amount of work on it can lie done, however, it will appoar fi-ayed as at present.. Proudly the record shows out " England', 1888." Shall we be able to add, " Britain-, 1904 ?" Time will tell. A special stand is being, erected at the eastern end of the field -in the Recreation Grounds for the officials of the Rugby Union and members of the British team. A great enthusiast in football matters is Rev. ,1. .V. Iluttle. At one time he was president of the Wairarapa Rugby 1 "iiion, and ivt present shows a keen interest in the welfare of the Taranaki team. Dr. I'ooEes, who j-'uys at full-tack next week, was picked for Mollineux's English team that toured Australia,, and having played in international football at Home, it is meet that he should play against the Britishers. A veritable Joseph, ns far as dreaiys go, lives in New Plymouth. Last Tuesday night ho "dreamed a dream" in which his fancy pictured the visitors as victors over IheOtago and Southland' team by 14 to 8, tl> correct score, and saw Taranaki be. Wellington by 10 toil, one poin; out. His latest effort is a midnight vision tin which his guiding angel prophesies that the big match at Wellington to-day will end in favour of tho colonials by 11 points to 9. Hundreds of people who have never seen a football match will witness the game on Wednesday. Inquiries for accommodation are coming forward in bushels. Those who are making such a fuss' about the inclustoh of the Wanganui and Manawatu players in the , Taranaki team for Wednesday next should remember that the match is allotted to tho three unions. Of course the other unions-did not share in the guarantee. There is nothing wonderful in that. Not many New Plymouth people would have signed a guarantee had the match been fixed for Wanganui or ralmerston North, hut what a squeal had' no Taranaki men been selected -for the team !
