Medley, —Engineer's Report.— The borough engineer reported that the tunnel at the waterworks had been pushed on until it was now within a fow feet of completion, practically completed. The work from tho Mamgamahoe to the Waiwakaiho was well advanced, and the concrete lining was progressing, about 600 feet remaining to be done. The laying of pipes was being pushed on, and iu th'iif connection it was necessary to arrive at an early settlement re wayleaves. The pipe bridges were hung up from this same cause. Sewerage operations were now being carried out from Dawson Street westward,' but the. wot weather interfered. No cases of notifiable infectious disease had occurred. Ho had been engaged in various sanitary matters, draining, and so forth.—Adopted, —Financo Committee.— The finance committee's report was token. Cr. Collis explained the position as regarded the charge of £3 10s for gas at tho baths. The motion was carried. —Works Committee.— The works committee's report was adopted. —Electric Light.— The electric light committee's report, recommending .tho appointment of an electric engineer nt £2OO per annum was considered. Tho Mayor moved tho adoption of the reiiort. They could get a good man for £2OO a year. Cr. Wood thought the salary too small to attract a good man. He , moved an amendment that £2B per annum be added. Cr. Brooking seco.ndod. There was the greatest necessity for having a good man at the outset. The amendment was carried. The Town Clerk will write to Mr Mestayer for information' as to the probable date of signing the electric installation contract. —Cattle Driving.— The Mayor said that a conference of Henui Koad Board, Taranaki County Council and'borough council dolegates would probably be hold on Saturday regarding tlie driving of cattle to the abattoirs. —Sqwerago Scheme.— Tho sewerage committee recommended that arrangements would be made to connect the public schoolsi with the main sewer, and proposed also io connect tho hospital and old people's home as early ns possible. Tile report was adopted. —Ordinary Business.— The Mayor reported that the action of the weather was washing away the groins on the beach at Woolcombo Terrace.—Tlw engineer will toe empowered to secure this timber, as it was useless in its present position. Cr. Wood brought up the matter of remedying the drainage at .the east end of' Courttmay Street. Cr. Wood further culled the council's attention to the fact that the lamps authorised in Lemon Street had not been erected. These matters will be attended to. —The Town Clerk.— The Town Clerk applied for a fortiflight of his month's leave from August 25th meat.—Referred to tlie Mayor. , Cr. Modley moved, according to notice, that the footpaths is Devon
