DEFENDERS MAKE A SORTIE. BUT ARE FORCED BACK., LONDON, August 2. Advices from Tient-sin state that heavy ordnance is mounted on the heights commanding Port Arthur. A sortie by tlvo defenders was repulsed, the Russians retiring behind their original positions.
